The Dost-zaroori-ship!

The airtel's latest ad 'har ek friend zaroori hota hai' is flooding facebook walls, tweets and even blogging world. And I am no expection. It has reminded me of so many friends who have been a part of my life at some stage. (i am already sounding old!)

Been blessed by many a good friends till now and have had some unique fun-filled dosts as well. This post is dedicated to the fond memories of two of my best buddies at school.

Back in my boarding days, i had this classmate X (name kept undisclosed) who was from Bihar. We had all the chores together, same section, same hostel, same room n all that. This guy was, on serious side a competitor as well, in academics back in the nerdy days. He had this unique persona which had liveliness and humour spilling over all bounds. He was a number! No seeker of limelight! Just plain chilled-out, all into living through the various chores.

He was a known face in some circles but not wide known across other sections or juniors, seniors, etc. He's been a big time partner in crime at school...

He had no qualms about cheating in exams and once responded to me, when i asked him wasnt he afraid, "my dad knows that atleast 5% i achieve by cheating. Why disappoint him?" Man! At that time cheating was the biggest sin and his coolness and calmness were such a mark of guts and galore for someone who was intelligent and sort of a nerd (an unmatched trait).

Another unique characteristic was his lingo. No! He spoke english and other languages in normal accent. He used to enact his Bhojpuri lingo into english or hindi, etc. and show off his funny side. Such a comic character was he, to think of him saying something seriously was a rare thing. And yup! What made him special was his dry humour; not laughing at his own humour... Unlike other look-at-me-i-am-funny kids at school... He was spontaneous, raw, talented in all aspects of life.

Though i was the golden kid at school (coz of being the geek plus all that discipline i never followed since school), i was always envious (in a positive way) of his talents and deep down wanted to do all things he could... But some people are gifted and that's the way they meant to be. Today! After so many years, i may have matched that somewhat... But he was the best i have ever seen. I still freak out before an exam. He never ever did. When i saw 3 idiots, Rancho reminded me of this knucklehead.

Havent met him in past 9 years, but have stayed in touch. For the records, he is now an owner of a call centre.

Coming to the next best friend... Z(name again kept undisclosed)... Well! This sardarji.. Rare combo of Sardarji+Jatt+Super intelligent+Sportsman+ProBhangraDancer+what not... Was again... Same section.. Same room.. Etc. And was my benchBuddy in the final year of school(this boarding school was upto just 10th)... So the bond was obviously supposed to there.. As a matter of fact X n me n him can be said to be three mutual best buddies! Everywhere in all chores, we were together... Z was excellent in studies.. Quie often before last year scored more than me ( yeah! D school competitor ego! It exists in all school geeks :P)... Ok! that was just to say that this guy was super good in everything. And yet did not have any ego or any rough attitude; down-to-earth guy.

Both X and Z had joined school in 8th, thus stayed for only 3 years. While i was a veteran who had been there from 5th. And these both guys had come at a time when my then best buddy had left the school as he had got through to RIMC, Dehradun (shall write a special post bout him someday! Coincidently my younger brother and his younger sister were also best buddies at school... Post on that some other time).

So this Z, was the tallest of the three (i was very short at school :/), most outspoken, bold, daring, bindaas, sort-of-i-dont-give-a-damn-you-are... And many more.. I have learnt to be gutsy from him...
He's the one who i have always shared my endeavours in life... Though he's much of a non-planner like me.. We have always by destiny talked at crucial moments of career and things have taken their course well. Met him two years back at delhi after nearly 7 years... He's tipped over 6 ft... (And i have managed nearly 5'9" after years of patience... :D) Didnt meet since then... But will be meeting him next month and hopefully even X and few other old friends. He's working with an MNC now. Both X and Z have done MBA.

And he's a big time bullet fan! Keeps travelling distances on it... Even went on it to Leh Ladakh... A full tine adventure lover! A real-life roadie:)

Miss my school days! Miss those days of friendship! Miss those days of selflessness!

  2. true... school has something unique... n personally having being day in day out... all the time with them, the bond is something that has withstood the test of times.
And talking generally, friendship is one big support system that helps you stay sane - personally or professionally. it doesn't matter how much or what your friend shares with you, it's the bond that speaks for itself. nothing else matters! :)
